Innovation Center Established in Research & Development Institute

The High Performance Plastics Company has established the Minase Innovation Center (MIC) within the Research & Development Institute (constructed in 1961), its main research and development base. In the three strategic fields—electronics, mobility and building and infrastructure—of the High Performance Plastics Company, changes in telecommunications and the automobile industry such as the spread of 5G in the telecommunications industry and development of CASE including automated driving in the automobile industry have made the fusion of human resources and information in various fields necessary for producing innovation. As a base for open innovation within and outside the company, MIC has a layout that promotes the exchange of opinions with customers and interaction between employees from the respective strategic fields. The use of MIC will encourage internal and external fusion, thereby further promoting the creation of innovation that can contribute to social problem solving as well as the growth of SEKISUI CHEMICAL Group and the High Performance Plastics Company.

    Expansion of Pharmaceuticals Business

To respond to diversification and rising costs in the pharmaceutical industry, SEKISU CHEMICAL has decided to invest a total amount of approximately six billion yen in two major plants of the medical business within and outside Japan to enhance production facilities of raw materials for pharmaceutical products. In Japan, a new building for manufacturing pharmaceutical intermediates will be constructed at the Iwate Plant of subsidiary SEKISUI MEDICAL. Overseas, a new room for microbial fermentation and purification will be established within the United Kingdom plant of SEKISUI DIAGNOSTICS (UK). Both plants adhere to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP; this is a set of regulations regarding the manufacturing environment of pharmaceuticals including raw materials) which is a standard for the manufacturing and quality management of pharmaceuticals. They are able to develop and manufacture active pharmaceutical ingredients and raw materials. Through this enhancement, a system for contract manufacturing of various types of active pharmaceutical ingredients and raw materials will be established to strengthen the Pharmaceuticals business and focus on further expanding the life science field.
