SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD. (President and Representative Director: Keita Kato; hereafter, “SEKISUI CHEMICAL”) received the Gold Award—the Minister of the Environment Award—at the seventh “ESG Finance Awards Japan,” hosted by the Ministry of the Environment, in the Fundraisers category. This award recognizes SEKISUI CHEMICAL’s efforts in raising funds for the development of film-type perovskite solar cells.
The goal of the “ESG Finance Awards Japan” is to share with society the progressive initiatives of institutional investors, financial institutions, intermediaries, and companies that have made a positive impact on ESG finance and environmental and social business, leading to the promotion and expansion of ESG finance. These awards have been presented by the Minister of the Environment since FY2019.
■Reasons for receiving the Gold Award in the Fundraisers category
In receiving this award, SEKISUI CHEMICAL was recognized for its fundraising efforts related to the development of film-type perovskite solar cells, which is an ambitious new technology with significant social impact; its ongoing deep dialogue with investors with a view to commercialization in 2027; and its steady progress in implementing this innovation in society.
SEKISUI CHEMICAL also received praise for its design approach integrating management strategy and finance, as well as for being an innovative example of fundraising focused on perovskite solar cells, a signature theme of GX, that clearly links R&D and green finance.
SEKISUI CHEMICAL has adopted “Innovation for the Earth” as its vision statement in its long-term vision, “Vision 2030,” declaring that it will “support the basis of LIFE and continue to create ‘peace of mind for generations to come’ in order to realize a sustainable society” through innovation. SEKISUI CHEMICAL will use the funds raised for the capital investment and research and development necessary for manufacturing in order to steadily advance the social implementation of film-type perovskite solar cells.
