SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD. (President: Keita Kato; hereinafter “SEKISUI CHEMICAL”) announces that it will sponsor the “Green Expo ” of the Future Society Showcase Project of the 2025 World Exposition in Japan (hereinafter “Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan”) and to provide the film-type perovskite solar cells that SEKISUI CHEMICAL is currently developing. The film-type perovskite solar cells will be installed at the bus shelter of the West Gate Transportation Terminal, and they will be used to power LED lighting at night.

  SEKISUI CHEMICAL agrees with the theme of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai Japan, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” and the concept of “People’s Living Lab -A laboratory for a future society”. Under the Future Society Showcase Project, advanced technologies and systems owned by companies and organizations will be demonstrated and implemented at the venue. We thought that it would be an important opportunity to demonstrate and implement the film-type perovskite solar cell currently being developed and propose its contribution to carbon neutrality.

  We are also considering and discussing providing the film-type perovskite solar cells to other pavilion exhibitors at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. We will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by proposing new forms of electricity generation and working toward their implementation in society.

(Reference 1) Overview and future development of the film-type perovskite solar cells

   SEKISUI CHEMICAL achieved outdoor durability of 10 years equivalent ahead of the rest of the industry through an original “sealing, film formation, materials and process technology,” creating a 30 cm-wide roll-to-roll manufacturing process. This manufacturing process has been successfully used to produce film-type perovskite solar cells with power generation efficiency of 15.0%.
  Currently, SEKISUI CHEMICAL is aiming for practical application with the establishment of a manufacturing process for 1 m-wide rolls and the further improvement of durability and power generation efficiency, and is accelerating development leveraging the Green Innovation Fund of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). In addition, for early implementation in society, we are conducting development in cooperation with various related parties such as West Japan Railway Company, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, NTT DATA Corporation, and JERA Co., Ltd., aiming for commercialization in 2025.
