—SEKISUI CHEMICAL Group's Response to the Issue of Climate Change—

SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD. (President: Teiji Koge; hereinafter as “SEKISUI CHEMICAL”) announced its support for the TCFD*1 recommendations in January 2019, and at this time has now made its first information disclosure in line with those recommendations. SEKISUI CHEMICAL will continue to make disclosures in line with TCFD recommendations about measures to address issues of climate change, which needs to be resolved in order to realize a sustainable earth.

The disclosure covered the SEKISUI CHEMICAL Group's response to the issues related to climate change in terms of the four areas recommended by the TCFD: Governance, Strategy, Risk Management, and Metrics and Targets. The contents of the disclosure are available for download from SEKISUI CHEMICAL's "CSR Report"website(pdf:2.56MB).

・Main point

Under the “Strategy” category, SEKISUI CHEMICAL has envisaged four "scenario societies" based on the climate changes predicted for the future and predicted social economical, technological, and other changes. The opportunities and risks for SEKISUI CHEMICAL Group in each scenario society are examined and organized, along with ways for the Group to contribute to solutions for these kinds of issues through its businesses.

SEKISUI CHEMICAL Group’s CSR*2 promotes stakeholder engagement with constructive dialogue to improve corporate value and build relationships of trust with stakeholders, and it has set a policy of actively disclosing important corporate information from the viewpoint of financial, environmental and social concerns. Also, as a basic strategy in its Medium-term Management Plan, “SHIFT 2019 -Fusion-”, SEKISUI CHEMICAL Group has set up and works to promote the building of a sustainable management foundation from an environmental, social and governance (ESG) perspective. In particular, in relation to the environmental (E) viewpoint, climate change and other environmental issues in its Environmental Medium-term Plan for the fiscal years 2017 to 2019, “SEKISUI Environmental Sustainability Plan: Accelerate” are active tackled.

With regard to the issue of climate change, risks and opportunities regarding climate change for companies over the long term are analyzed, and countermeasures and strategies for responding to the issues are examined and implemented. Going forward, SEKISUI CHEMICAL Group will make even greater efforts to increase its sustainability by helping to improve the sustainability of the society and earth through its businesses, and at the same time, build a sustainable management foundation, including relationships of trust with stakeholders through this kind of information disclosure.

*1 TCFD:The Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures was established in 2015 by the Financial Stability Board (FSB), which is an international organization that seeks to stabilize the financial system. The TCFD recommends that companies analyze the impact of climate change on their financial status and disclose information about their strategies to respond based on those impacts.
