-Environmental contribution activities involving the entire Sekisui Chemical Group globally-
SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD. (President: Naofumi Negishi, hereinafter called
"Sekisui Chemical") has designated August 1 to 7 this year as "Sekisui
Environmental Week", and the entire Sekisui Chemical Group will be engaged
in environmental contribution activities globally.
During this inaugural
"Sekisui Environmental Week", mangrove planting will be held in Thailand
as a symbolic event. In addition to the president and other executives, over
100 employees and their families will also be participating. At each of the
other sites, unique environmental contribution activities will also be planned
and implemented.
By implementing the "Sekisui Environmental Week"
every year, the awareness towards the environment will continuously increase
among Sekisui Chemical Group employees, and promote environmental contributions
both regionally and globally through both business and non-business activities.
Overview
of the "Sekisui Environmental Week"
1. Background and Purpose to Establishing "Sekisui Environmental
Week"
1) Background
From August 1 to 7 last year, Sekisui Chemical Group
hosted the "Global Children's Eco Summit 2012" in Japan as the 65th
company anniversary event. A total of 85 children of company employees from
major sites around the world participated, and exchanged different cultures
through environmental studies on Lake Biwa.
Working from the proposals received
from the children who participated in the Eco Summit, it was decided to establish
"Sekisui Environmental Week", in which the entire Sekisui Chemical
Group will be involved in environmental contribution activities every August
(Press release from August 29, 2012).
2) Purpose
The Sekisui Chemical Group is striving not only to reduce
the environmental impact of our business activities but also to develop products
and supply services that link to contributing to the global environment. This
is based on the environmental principles of "aiming to be a Global Environmental
Top Runner that contributes to the realization of a sustainable society by enabling
the continuous growth and co-existence of the ecology*1 and the economy*2".
Further,
to bequeath a beautiful planet Earth to the children of the future, Sekisui
Chemical is committed to prevent global warming in all countries and regions
in which we are active, and to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity
and the configuration of the sound material-cycle society.
By implementing
"Sekisui Environmental Week", the awareness of the environment among
each and every employee will continuously increase, and promote environmental
contributions both regionally and globally through both business and non-business
activities.

2."1st Sekisui Environmental Week" Main Event
1) Symbolic Event: "Mangrove Planting in Thailand"
In
addition to the president and other executives, over 100 employees and their
families will be participating. Production facilities for polyolefin foam, interlayer
film for laminated glass, and modular houses are currently based in Thailand,
and a chlorinated polyvinyl chloride plant is scheduled for construction next
year.
On this occasion of implementing environmental contribution activities
on a grand scale in Thailand, where the Sekisui Chemical Group is developing
a wide range of businesses, the goal is to raise awareness of the environment
among employees on a global level.
