The High Performance Plastics Company (President: Ikusuke Shimizu) of SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD. (President and Representative Director: Keita Kato; hereinafter “SEKISUI CHEMICAL) has decided to increase the production capacity of SELFA®, high adhesion-easy removable UV tape used in advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes, at its Musashi Plant (Location: Hasuda City, Saitama). It will also establish a new R&D base in Taiwan to enable evaluation and analysis of semiconductor-related materials, including this product.

1. Investment Background
SELFA®, high adhesion-easy removable UV Tape, is a tape that combines strong adhesion and easy peeling with UV irradiation (gas is generated between the tape and the adherend by UV irradiation, which makes the tape easily peelable without adhesion). This makes it possible to process thinly polished wafers without damage. These excellent characteristics have been highly appreciated by customers, especially in advanced semiconductors for AI (artificial intelligence) and high-speed communications, and power semiconductors for automotive applications, contributing to the development of the semiconductor market. SEKISUI CHEMICAL estimates that this market will reach $1 trillion by 2030, approximately double the 2023 level.
As demand is expected to continue to grow, SEKISUI CHEMICAL will expand production capacity and strengthen quality control in order to establish a stable supply system and meet advanced quality requirements.
In addition, SEKISUI CHEMICAL has decided to establish a new R&D base in Taiwan (Hsinchu City), where many semiconductor-related companies, including key customers, are concentrated and actively developing cutting-edge technologies. This allows the company to conduct evaluation and analysis close to its customers, anticipating and responding to their increasingly sophisticated needs as well as accelerating the development and expansion of new semiconductor materials, including this product.
