1.5°C Target for Greenhouse Gas Reduction approved by SBT Initiative

SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD (President and Representative Director: Keita Kato, hereinafter SEKISUI CHEMICAL) established new targets in October 2022 for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2030. In March 2023, these targets were re-approved by the SBT (Scientifically-Based Target) initiative for the efforts to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

*The SBT is a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Science-based targets show companies how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to prevent the worst effects of climate change. Targets are considered ‘science-based’ if they are in line with what the latest climate science deems necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement – limiting global warming to well-below (WB) 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.

SBT Initiative

SEKISUI CHEMICAL Group recognizes that climate change is not only a major social issue, but also a major business risk for our group, and is actively contributing to minimize the issues. In 2018, our original targets were validated by SBT, the first in the chemical sector. In October 2022, we set new targets for reducing GHG emissions as climate-change measures become an even more urgent social issue.
