SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD. (President: Keita Kato; hereinafter “SEKISUI CHEMICAL”) has been selected under the 2021 Health & Productivity Stock Selection Program, winning recognition for the company’s excellence in health and productivity management.

The Health & Productivity Stock Selection Program is a program organized jointly by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Tokyo Stock Exchange to select business enterprises that engage strategically in efforts to promote the health of employees from a management perspective. The program aims to encourage business enterprises to organize health management activities through presentation of enterprises that excel in the area as attractive to investors who place emphasis on improvement of corporate value from a long-term perspective.

Based on the SEKISUI CHEMICAL Group’s belief that “employees are valuable resources entrusted to the Group by society,” the Group has been actively involved in promoting employee health. The activity has taken a step forward, upgraded to a management strategy aimed at the betterment of employee health. Under the strategy, action is being taken through five initiatives to realize health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being of all employees.

Health promotion through five initiatives

1.Physical health: Health checkups and measures to prevent lifestyle diseases

A Group-wide health management system has been introduced to reinforce health management. Also, employees at high risk based on results of health checkups are monitored, and activities such as issue of suitable guidelines and letters to such employees and to health managers in each worksite are under way. High-risk employees who accounted for 1.4% of the workforce in fiscal 2017 dropped to 1.0% in fiscal 2019.


2.Mental health: Stress checks, training program and counseling center

Stress checks are conducted throughout the Group, extending to group analysis for which best-effort action is compulsory and further to workplace improvement. For newly appointed managerial staff, mid-career hires and overseas assignees, online stress management training is conducted and produced improvement in the stress self-control index. Starting in fiscal 2020, mental health training because a requirement for all Group employees. A counseling center has been created for all employees, providing safety net measures as well.


3.Organization: Systems and workplaces where people can work with peace of mind

In order to address a wide range of elements impairing human health, including chemical substances, work posture and noise, the occupational health and safety management system is being used to promote improvement activities in the entire Group. Effort is also being directed to improvement of internal programs to provide a sense of security in the workplace environment for employees suffering from diseases.。


4.Group-wide initiatives

Through Group-wide promotion of health management, SEKISUI’s 30 affiliated companies in Japan were selected as 2021 Certified Health & Productivity Management Organizations (Large Enterprise Category). Additionally, health managers and persons in charge have been appointed at all business sites (approximately 300) to build an organization that promotes health management without fail.

5.Increase motivation and productivity

SEKISUI CHEMICAL plans to enhance work motivation and productivity through effective action in Initiatives 1 through 4. For greater visibility of improvement in productivity, “presenteeism*1” and “absenteeism*2” measurements were started from FY2019.
*1 Presenteeism: Work performance being below the expected level due to physical and/or mental problems.
*2 Absenteeism: State of being absent from work due to a variety of factors including illness, poor health, etc.

SEKISUI CHEMICAL plans to promote health and productivity management to realize good health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being of all employees and contribute to local communities and society through its activities.
