The Housing Company(President: Shunichi Sekiguchi) of Sekisui Chemical Company will start sales of the "Smart Power Station '100% Edition'" from January 2, 2017 (Mon.) (Excluding Hokkaido, Okinawa, and the snowy regions of Honshu.)

The "Paris Agreement", an international framework for global warming countermeasures from 2020 onwards, was formally adopted at COP21 (21st United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties), which was held in Paris, France, at the end of last year. Therein, Japan cited targets to reduce greenhouse gases by 26% compared to 2013 levels by 2030 and, subsequently, is in a situation where the country needs a further level of reduction. Amidst this, energy reduction in households is important, and the spread of electric vehicles (hereinafter called "EV") will progress, and it is presumed that the net zero energy house (hereinafter called "ZEH") will become the standard specifications for housing in the future.

In light of this, Sekisui Chemical is launching the "Smart Power Station '100% Edition'", the flagship product of its Smart Heim series, which compiles housing-related environmental technologies accumulated to date.

Summary of New Product "Smart Power Station '100% Edition'"

The "Smart Power Station '100% Edition'"*1, which has adopted the following equipment, can achieve 100% energy self-sufficiency*2 which enables pleasant living, and eliminates anxiety regarding power, such as long-term blackouts and rising energy bills.

Main "Smart Power Station '100% Edition'" Equipment
 -Triple glass resin sashes
-Large-capacity solar generation systems (hereinafter called "PV")
-Consulting-type home energy management system "Smart Heim Navi" (Hereinafter called "HEMS")
-Large-capacity compact size indoor installation-type storage battery "e-Pocket"
-V2H System "V to Heim" (hereinafter called "V2H"), which transmits power between EVs, plug-in hybrid vehicles, and houses

1. Built-in indoor installation-type storage battery with large capacity, compactness, and V2H-compatible

Adopts a new large-capacity (12.0kWh) indoor storage battery that is the smallest in the industry (495 x 760 x 525mm (H x L x W). The cells comprising the storage battery are film-type, so compared to existing indoor storage batteries, it achieves a great increase in capacity and saves space*4. The battery is also lightweight and durable, and is available with a long 20-year warranty*5.

It additionally enables joint use between storage batteries and V2H. This joint use enables large amounts of the power generated by PV to be stored, and can almost safeguard the power required to live normally even during blackouts caused by disasters, etc.

2. Achieves pleasant 17% energy reduction by improving insulation and all-rooms AC with HEMS control (Sekisui Chemical's "pleasant airiness")

Sekisui Chemical has been promoting HEMS installation since the launch of "Smart Heim" in 2011, and currently it is installed in 36,830 buildings, the most in the industry*6. It operates and manages big data. HEMS control, which was developed using this data, achieves energy-saving with all-room AC (Sekisui Chemical's "Confort Airy"). (Introduced April 2016)

In addition to the above, "triple glass resin sashes" are also used, which comprise 2 layers of Low-E glass, internal and external. Achieves high insulation performance to reduce air-conditioning energy consumption amounts by approx. 17% compared to existing models. (Calculated using Sekisui Chemical's model plan)*7.

History of the Development of "Smart Power Station '100% Edition'"

Sekisui Chemical started selling PV-equipped homes in 1997, and the total cumulative sales for houses to the end of September 2016 was 177,855.

The "Smart Heim Series" was launched in 2011, equipping houses with HEMS, home storage batteries, and cutting-edge equipment like V2H. Judging that energy self-sufficiency is a requirement for housing, we have improved product energy conservation, energy creation, and stored energy performance. As a result, in a 2015 survey targeting Sekisui Heim occupants starting to live in 2014 which are all-electric and have PV , 32% of homes were ZEH including home electronics, and 27% had ZEH or equivalent.

The Japanese government is to revise its renewable energy fixed-price purchasing system (hereinafter called "FIT") by 2020, and Sekisui Chemical aims to leap ahead of the pack in the creation of further customer advantages and of other companies in the industry by selling "Smart Power Station '100% Edition'", which can maximize the power generated by PV.

Technologies of the new "Smart Power Station '100% Edition'" Product

1. Built-in indoor storage battery with large capacity, compactness, and V2H compatibility

The newly-adopted storage batteries use large film-type cells uniquely developed by Sekisui Chemical (LB project). Comprised as a system by Kyocera Corporation, the battery achieves a large capacity of 12kWh and the smallest size in the industry*3 of 495 x 760 x 525mm (H x L x W). As the capacity has been increased compared to existing indoor models, more power can be stored through PV generation in the daytime for use at night. Furthermore, the product is compatible with 200V home appliances.
The space required for installation is approx. half of that for existing*4 indoor storage batteries.
In addition, it comes with a long 20-year warranty*5.

Furthermore, it can be used jointly with Sekisui Heim's unique V2H system, and linked to three battery power sources (PV, indoor storage batteries, and vehicle batteries) to assure greater power capacity and improve the rate of energy self-supply.

2. Achieves a pleasant 17% energy saving (compared to existing devices)*7 by improving insulation performance with all-rooms AC with HEMS control

Since the launch of "Smart Heim" in 2011, Sekisui Chemical has promoted HEMS installation, and currently it has been installed in 36,830 homes, the most in the industry*6. It operates and manages HEMS big data. The HEMS control developed using this data enables both a pleasant indoor home environment using all-rooms AC and energy conservation to be achieved. In addition, the "triple glass resin sash" comprises 2 Low-E glass sheets, inner and outer, with glass sandwiched between them for a 2-layer configuration. The overall thickness is 27mm, of which there are 2 layers filled with a 9mm layer of argon gas to achieve glass with the highest insulation performance in Japan "U value (heat penetration flow rate) 1.57".

Generally in homes, the ratio of heat transfer from apertures is high, but using the triple glass sash reduces energy consumption by heaters and coolers by approx. 17% compared to existing models*7 (calculated using Sekisui Chemical's model plan), thus enabling both energy savings and a pleasant lifestyle with improved cooling effects in summer and heating in winter.

Verification of "Smart Power Station '100% Edition's" 100% Self-Sufficiency

HEMS manages data by household on the cloud, which is of use in energy-saving and economical living for residents. "Smart Power Station '100% Edition'" analyzes Sekisui Chemical's HEMS data to enable calculations using values closer to reality. This enables power consumption distribution to be sampled by residents' region and home circumstances. The energy self-sufficiency rate using the "100% Edition" is analyzed using energy income and expenditure (PV generation amount, energy sales amount, energy purchase amount (per main device), home consumption amount, storage amount, discharge amount, and residual charge amount) 24/365 per customer, and over half of the customers in actual homes with Smart Power Station (5 southern areas and single households) confirm that they can theoretically maintain and achieve a 100% energy self-sufficient lifestyle. Further, lifestyles can be maintained almost equally both during normal times and blackouts.
