-Environmental contribution activities involving the whole Sekisui Chemical Group globally-

SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD. (President: Teiji Koge; hereinafter called "Sekisui Chemical") decided on "SEKISUI Environment Week" in 2013, and the entire Sekisui Chemical Group has since become involved in environmental conservation activities centering on the week of August 1 to 7.

This, the 4th "SEKISUI Environment Week" opened on August 20 with the symbolic event of weeding out of Invasive species in NYC, USA, and in addition to the president and the board of directors, approx. 100 people participated, including employees and their families. Further, unique environmental contribution activities were planned and implemented at each workplace.

In FY2014, Sekisui Chemical established the environmental midterm plan "SEKISUI Environmental Sustainable Plan Take-Off" (FY2014 to FY2016), aiming for the participation of all workplaces within the Sekisui Chemical Group and all employees in "SEKISUI Environment Week".

1) Symbolic event: Weeding out Invasive species in NYC, USA

Summary of Activities

Central Park, which is located in northern Manhattan in NYC, is rich in biodiversity, and is an oasis of calm visited by 42 million people annually. It was here that we worked to weed out Invasive species under the guidance of the CPC (Central Park Conservancy). Sekisui Chemical Group companies in America have undertaken similar activities three times already in the past, simultaneously also learning to increase their environmental awareness and their understanding of the importance of biodiversity.

The Sekisui Chemical Group established the Sekisui Plastics Corporation, which handles the manufacture and sales of foam polystyrene paper, in the state of Pennsylvania in April 1963, and was the earliest inroads into the USA ever by a Japanese manufacturer.

Currently, they are rolling out mainstay products such as interlayer films for laminated glass and other vehicle materials, diagnostic reagents, examination devices, and other items in the medical field, and high-performance plastic sheets, etc., for railroads. By implementing symbolic environmental protection activities such as this one in the USA, we would like to raise environmental awareness among our employees at the global level.

Reference: Background and Purpose to the Establishment of "SEKISUI Environment Week"

1) Background

The Sekisui Chemical Group convened the "Global Children's Eco Summit 2012" in Japan during August 2012 as an event to commemorate the 65th anniversary since our founding. A total of 85 children of employees at major worksites around the world participated, and engaged in environmental studies on the subject of Lake Biwa, and interaction with foreign cultures.

We listened to the children's proposals at the ECO summit, and decided to establish "SEKISUI Environment Week" in August every year, during which the entire Sekisui Chemical Group is involved in environmental contribution activities.

During last year, which was the third such event, we undertook local cleanup activities and nature watching, etc., at all workplaces and related companies around the world.

2) Objectives

The Sekisui Chemical Group intends to achieve its aim of a "world in which biodiversity is preserved" by "contributing to a return to natural capital" through the three contributions of "expanding and creating markets for environmental contribution products", "reducing the burden on the environment", and "preserving the natural environment" by means of the creation of personnel teams highly skilled in the promotion of environmental activities via the implementation of environmental contribution activities starting with "SEKISUI Environment Week".
