Reference: Background and Purpose to the Establishment of "SEKISUI Environment Week"
1) Background
The Sekisui Chemical Group convened the "Global Children's Eco Summit
2012" in Japan from August 1 to 7 2012 as an event to commemorate the 65th
anniversary since our founding. A total of 85 children of employees at major
worksites around the world participated, and engaged in environmental studies
on the subject of Lake Biwa, and interaction with foreign cultures.
We listened to the children's proposals at the ECO summit, and decided to
establish "SEKISUI Environment Week" every year, during which the
entire Sekisui Chemical Group is involved in environmental contribution activities.
During the 2nd event last year, 175 of the 199 worksites and affiliate companies worldwide implemented local cleaning activities and nature observations, etc. Our aim for this fiscal year, which is the third time, was for 100% worksite participation.
2) Objectives
The Sekisui Chemical Group intends to achieve our aim of a "world in which biodiversity is preserved" by "contributing to a return to natural capital" through the three contributions of "expanding and creating markets for environmental contribution products", "reducing the burden on the environment", and "preserving the natural environment" by means of the creation of personnel teams highly skilled in the promotion of environmental activities via the implementation of environmental contribution activities starting with "SEKISUI Environment Week".
