-Environmental contribution activities involving the entire Sekisui Chemical Group globally-

Last year, SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD. (President: Naofumi Negishi, hereinafter called "Sekisui Chemical") decided to establish "Sekisui Environmental Week", and the entire Sekisui Chemical Group was involved in environmental contribution activities globally centering on August 1 to 7.

On August 3, forestation activities were held in Suzhou, China to symbolize the 2nd "Sekisui Environmental Week”. In addition to the president and executive directors, approximately 170 employees and their families participated. Furthermore, unique environmental contribution activities were planned and implemented at other manufacturing sites and offices.

Sekisui Chemical has established their environmental midterm plan "SEKISUI Environment Sustainability Plan Take-off" (FY2014 to FY2016) as well as reviewing our long-term environmental vision "SEKISUI Environment Sustainability Vision 2030" concomitant with establishing the midterm management plan "SHINKA!-Advance 2016" (FY2014 to FY2016).

The environmental midterm plan is aiming for the participation of all employees at all workplaces throughout the entire Sekisui Chemical Group during the "Sekisui Environment Week".

Main Events during the "2nd Sekisui Environmental Week"

1) "Forestation Activities in Suzhou, China" Event

Forestation in Suzhou started in 2009, and this was the 12th event which is held twice a year. The cumulative number of participants to the previous event was 999. This event’s participants were the commemorative 1,000th participants, and they planted approximately 200 cherry tree saplings.

In China, there are production sites for interlayer films for laminated glass, vacuum blood collection tubes, and water drainage pipes, etc. and approximately 1,400 employees in total. One of the objectives is to raise awareness towards the environment among our employees on a global level through these environmental contribution activities in China, where the Sekisui Chemical Group is rolling out business of a wide scale.

2)Other Environmental Project

In addition to the main event in China, unique environmental contribution activities were planned and implemented at various locations.

Reference: Background and Purpose to the Establishment of "Sekisui Environmental Week"

1) Background

The Sekisui Chemical Group convened the "Global Children's Eco Summit 2012" in Japan from August 1 to 7, 2012 as an event to commemorate the 65th company’s anniversary. A total of 85 children of employees at major worksites around the world participated, and exchanged cultures through environmental studies on Lake Biwa.

Many proposals were received from children at the Eco Summit, and the decision was made to establish "Sekisui Environmental Week" to involve the entire Sekisui Chemical Group in environmental contribution activities in August every year. (August 29, 2012 Press Release)

During the 1st event last year, 156 of the 199 worksites and affiliate companies worldwide implemented activities such as local cleaning, nature observations, etc.

2) Objective

In order to realize an “Earth with maintained biodiversity”, Sekisui Chemical Group will "contribute to the return of natural capital" through the three contributions of "expand and create Environment-Contributing Products", "reduce environmental impacts", and "conserve natural environment" which can be achieved by teams of personnel with skills to promote environmental activities through the implementation of environmental contribution activities starting with "Sekisui Environmental Week".
