Holding Technical Briefings and Verification Tests Disclosure on Project to Improve Water Quality in Vietnam

Sekisui Aqua Systems Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "the company"), a subsidiary of SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD. (President: Naofumi Negishi), as the representative business operator of an academic-industrial-government team formed with Osaka Prefecture, Sun Engineering Co., Ltd. and Osaka Sangyo University, has undertaken a project to improve water quality through energy-saving organic / industrial waste water processing in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (hereafter "Vietnam”).  It began verification testing in Vietnam this fiscal year and is examining the move to full-scale business.

The company, in cooperation with the Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam, will hold technical briefings and disclose its verification tests to local government bodies, industrial associations, industrial estates and private sector companies in Hanoi, Vietnam.

This project is being carried out as part of the Japanese Ministry of the Environment's Model Project for improving Asia Water Environment 1.

1.Purpose of the Technical Briefing and Verification Testing Disclosure

Vietnam is witnessing increased industrialization and urbanization due to the rapid development of its industry. Through faults in or failure to install equipment to process industrial / general wastewater, improper use of such or insufficient design capacity, large volumes of organic substances are being released into rivers and causing serious pollution of them particular around urban areas.  The company is seeking out business for water processing equipment using biological sludge (rotating quality contactor) method for easy maintenance while saving energy and space and suited to the level of the local economy.

The verification tests of ESROTAE will be disclosed here to introduce a wide range of water-related equipment including the ESROTAE to members of government bodies, industrial associations, industrial estates and Japanese-affiliated companies. Through this, we hope to increase knowledge of the company's technology and at the same time to expand our business.

Note 1) Model Project for improving Asia Water Environment
This project is being undertaken to aid the advancement of Japanese companies into the water business market in Asian countries utilizing technologies held by Japanese corporations as part of the growth strategy of the government by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan. This project gives support to feasibility surveys and local verification testing on proposals for specific project plans leading to improved water quality in Asian countries where water pollution is increasing, improving water quality in those locations, while also examining future measures to promote the overseas development of water business based upon issues in commercialization.

Product features of the ESROTAE

The ESROTAE water processing equipment using the biological sludge (rotating quality contactor) method purifies wastewater through the microbial film attached to the cubic latticed contactor. It rotates at low speed with approximately 40% of the contactor submerged in the wastewater, while oxygen is absorbed from the air and pollutants from the wastewater and the pollutants are aerobically decomposed. The device itself is compact and attachable. Technological features are as follows.

1.

Because the basic form of the cubic latticed contactor is a small cylinder, as load increases, the biological

sludge thickens and surface area increases.

2.

The rotating movement of the projecting structure toward the axis of the cubic lattice creates aeration

by crashing into the water surface and the whirlpool phenomenon.

3.

As the whole cubic latticed contactor has permeability, sewage can flow toward the axis through the

lattice without any dead space, allowing the whole contactor to function effectively.
