Receipt of Bronze Medal at Chelsea Flower Show 2008 Prestigious Show hosted by Royal Horticultural Society
SEKISUI EXTERIOR (President: Yoji Ohta), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Housing Company (President: Teiji Kouge) of SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD., displayed its exhibit "Tokyo City Garden" in the Urban Garden category of the Chelsea Flower Show 2008 held in the U.K., and we are delighted to announce that the exhibit was awarded the bronze medal at 5.00p.m., (9:00a.m. local time) on May 20 (Tuesday).
The Chelsea Flower Show is organized by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), presided over by Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth and is the world's most prestigious show of its kind since its beginning in 1913. Every year, garden designers and horticulturists gather from around the world to make the show a venue for high-level technical competition in the categories of landscape gardening and horticulture. The show continues to lead the world in gardening culture and has become a model for flower shows that have become popular in countries throughout the world in recent years. Based on the concept of "a garden linking the interior with the exterior," SEKISUI EXTERIOR's exhibit "Tokyo City Garden" shows a living space that unifies the building of an urban-style residence with a garden. In more concrete terms, it was the concept of incorporating design elements of traditional Japanese houses and gardens into the modern-day urban residential environment that resulted in the award. SEKISUI EXTERIOR is expanding "The Season" brand business and has uploaded the award-winning exhibit from the Chelsea Flower Show 2008 onto its homepage together with detailed information with the intention of promoting sales and enhancing brand awareness.
"Tokyo City Garden" is based on the concept of "a garden linking the interior with the exterior." Living close to nature: It has been the custom for Japanese people to create a small garden right next to their houses so that they can appreciate the changing of the seasons as they watch flowers daintily blooming and trees showing their autumn colors. This style of front garden was conceived to make it possible to view the beautiful landscape of the garden from inside the house and at the same time, to give passersby an opportunity to enjoy the view, forming a garden space unique to Japan that links the interior to the exterior. The 5 square-meter exhibit space within which an urban garden was recreated includes a porch with a view of the entire garden extending from the living room, the entrance used daily by the family leaving and returning home and a carport for one vehicle. Small Japanese flowering plants and a small brook can be found hidden between the trees forming a grove, expressing the kind of natural garden once loved by the Japanese people. It was the concept of incorporating design elements of traditional Japanese houses and gardens into the modern-day urban residential environment that won such high acclaim by the RHS judges. The Chelsea Flower Show is organized by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and has been held in May every year since 1913 in the Chelsea district of London. Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth visited the show the day before it was opened to the public. This year too, exhibitors gathered from around the world to exhibit approximately 50 gardens and more than 100 floral displays. The show also provides venues for presentations of the very latest technology by a wide range of companies in the fields of landscape gardening and horticulture as well as corners for the exchange of views and opinions. As well as providing opportunities for the appreciation of numerous exhibits by top-line garden designers, the show also affords visitors the chance to view flowers from around the globe in a single venue, attracting a great number of visitors from around the world and it has also become a tremendously popular show locally that is broadcast live everyday by the BBC.
