Press Release

September 16, 2008
SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD.

Establishment of Taga Plant as Main Production Base for Products in the IT Field
- Establishment of New Plant for the Production of Clean Tape and Film Products in the
Field of Electronics -

SEKISUI CHEMICAL CO., LTD. (President and Representative Director: Naotake Okubo, hereinafter referred to as "SEKISUI CHEMICAL") has established AT (Automotive Materials), IT (Electronic Materials) and MD (Medical Devices) as the strategic business fields at its High Performance Plastics (HPP) Company (President: Takayoshi Matsunaga) and is engaged in the implementation of strategic initiatives in each of these fields.

To reinforce the IT field, the "Taga Plant" has been established as a new business facility in the Lake Biwa Eastern Core Industrial Estate located in Shiga.

1. Background

SEKISUI CHEMICAL is engaged in the manufacture and sales of products such as fine particles, adhesive tape and sheet film in fields of optics and electronics including flat panel displays and semiconductor-related products and is planning mid-term expansion of these products. Currently, although the Minakuchi Plant in Shiga is the main production base for original chemical products represented by fine particles, further business expansion in the field of IT has given rise to the necessity for a new main production base for the product group centered on tape and film. To achieve this, SEKISUI FILM CO., LTD. will assume the entire control of the Taga Plant business facility operated by SEKISUI FILM CO., LTD. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of SEKISUI CHEMICAL, hereinafter referred to as "SEKISUI FILM"), a company that has been engaged in the production of some SEKISUI CHEMICAL's products in the IT field, to become the main plant in the field of IT under the direct control of SELISUI CHEMICAL from October 1.

2. Establishment of New Plant Building and Future Development

With the aim of achieving the early launch of the "newly-born" Taga Plant as the main production base, it has been decided to construct a new plant building in addition to the existing SEKISUI FILM Taga business facility as the first phase of construction. With a total investment of approximately 8.5 billion yen, completion is scheduled for January 2010. Further phased investment is planned for the future.

The Taga Plant will not only continue and expand the existing production of products in the field of IT, but will also be furnished with production equipment for clean tape and film products with high added value in the fields of optics and electronics as well as other areas where continued future growth is foreseen, and will be expanded in the medium- to long-term to become a main production base to meet the customer needs.
