Establishment of "TABLE FOR TWO" program |
Starting in May 2008, we will establish the, "TABLE FOR TWO" program in which contributions from the lunch menu in the company cafeteria will be used to support the school lunch programs of developing countries. The general scheme is, once a week a preselected dish from the cafeteria's healthy menu will be targeted for a 20 yen increase in price, which will be considered an employee donation. This program will begin in the Osaka and Tokyo head offices as well as the Kyoto R&D Laboratory, and gradually expand to include other branches and sections.
Among the world population of 6 billion people, 1 billion are suffering from starvation, while another 1 billion suffer from diseases associated with adult lifestyle habits. "TABLE FOR TWO" is a program aimed at dealing with the world's problems related to imbalances in diet. "Our purpose is to take some of the nutritional foods from the dining table of developed countries, and put it on the school cafeteria table of underdeveloped countries."
