Experiencing the Sekisui Nature Study Course and appreciation of Japanese drums at Sekisui's Yakurai Resort (Kami-gun, Miyagi Prefecture)
The children experienced nature in the environs of Mount Yakurai in northeastern Japan. In Yakurai the children compared the features of the natural world in Japan with their own countries to study the differences between diverse natural environments and life forms in different regions. In addition, the children were able to observe the lifestyle in traditional Japanese farm houses, providing them with an excellent opportunity to think about lifestyles based on sustainability and recycling.

Opening of the "Global Children's Eco Summit"
Held at the U Thant International Conference Hall, United Nations University (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo)
During the Eco Summit that formed the main event of the program, all 23 children made presentations on issues they perceived as problems in their own countries based on the themes of "Water," "Pollution," "Waste" and "Destruction of the Environment." This was followed by a group discussion on "Ideas to Protect the World in 2030" during which the children exchanged opinions and views on "Improvements in the Environment for the Future." The discussions were moderated by Ms. Mitsuyo Kusano, a freelance newscaster who served as the master of ceremonies, and environmental management consultant Peter D. Pedersen. Among the ideas suggested by the participants were "Corporate support of the 3 Rs of water (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle)," "We will try to make a law for 'cut one, plant one' (trees)" and "Establishment of no-car days."
The finale of the event was a group song with folk singer and UNEP Special Envoy, Ms. Tokiko Kato. In the reception following the Global Children's Eco Summit, Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd. President Naotake Okubo and the presidents of the 3 Divisional Companies mingled with the 23 Summit participants and families from Sekisui Chemical Group Companies in Japan.
